Microsites – Macroimpact!

Microsites are basically site pages which are supplementary to the main website. The purpose of microsites can vary – it could be to topical for a specific event or promotion and hence temporary in nature or it could be a more permanent feature but not necessarily part of the main parent site. Sometimes this is to differentiate the microsite which could have a more customer oriented approach vs the parent site which could be a more corporate focussed website.

Here are 5 tips concerning microsites:

  1. Ensure that the need for a microsite is clearly articulated vs integrating the information on your existing website.
  2. Think about your target audiences and map out your content strategy accordingly. Prepare a plan for creating regular buzz.
  3. If your microsite is targeting multiple audiences, you could think about creating a home page that allows users to choose their role and tailor the messaging to various target audiences.
  4. Make your microsite as simple as possible. Update it as needed. Link it to your other social media platforms.
  5. Make sure to deactivate the site if it has served its purpose.

And of course…review google analytics to monitor viewership and popular content.
